The largest consumer class action ever filed in Italy has been settled between the plaintiff and Volkswagen. The Court of Appeal has significantly reduced the amount of damage that the Lower Court had initially recognized in favor of consumers, buyers of defective cars. It seems useful to investigate the reasons that ground the settlement, to predict if they will inspire new class actions settlements in the future, or the Dieselgate will remain an isolated example.[Abstract appeared in the Journal]
