The study aims to analyze the trend of the data concerning cornea sampling from non-heart-beating donors carried out at the Spedali Civili in Brescia during the period 2003-2018. Considering data regarding 12,222 potential donors, these were more frequently males, mostly aged between 71 and 80 years old and coming from Medical Departments. A progressive increase in the percentages of clinical suitability (around 45% in the last three years) and in the percentages of cornea sampling (around 10% of potential donors in the last three years) was also appreciated. The percentage of consents / non-oppositions also increased, though only recently reached the milestone of one in three entitled to donation. The future prospects worthy of investments in order to further improve the procedure and the recruitment process should focus on the best assessment of clinical suitability through training courses as well as increasing the measures to raise awareness of the population in order to obtain a broader consent to the donation.[Abstract appeared in the Journal]
