Recently, the Italian central government has introduced the process of auditing among the Local Health Authorities. Previous literature analyses the compulsory features of the law and few regional experiences of adoption. This paper adopts a different perspective assuming the process of auditing as a project of implementation into the Local Health Authorities. Particularly, the aim is the analysis of how the competences of project manager and project team affect the implementation of auditing into the Italian hospitals. Main results come from the implementation experienced by the HPG23 hospital located in the Lombardy region. In this context, the forward-looking management choose a team of project members who actively manage all the people involved. The propulsive action moved by the project members creates a process of change and internal integration.[Abstract appeared in the Journal]
